Courses for Classroom Teachers

A rolling-list of interested teachers is maintained, and when enough teachers are on the list with interest in a particular course, and the course will be viable to run, a date will be organised.

Please contact us to register your interest in one of these teachers courses.

Infant music classes

Participants will arrive on Saturday morning and observe classes taking place with 3½ to 5 year olds.

In these early lessons the children learn all the theoretical requirements before going on to their individual instrumental lessons. Note lengths are taught by the use of activity games and shapes showing how mathematics is an integral part of music

Musical shorthand is a fascinating lesson showing how it can in fact be the child's first writing lesson.

Pitch is taught and participants will be intrigued to see how all children learn their notes right across the Great Stave by using mnemonics.

How the five-year olds learn to write their own compositions and play them on various instruments.

The rest of the weekend is spent going over the material. Teachers are shown how to teach this subject and the psychological techniques are explained.

Classical Guitar Course

This course has been specially designed for use in the classroom and there are many innovative ideas to help the teacher to make their classes successful and interesting.

It is especially helpful when group teaching. The private guitar teacher will also find it of immense help as it reveals the fingering of all chords and makes for rapid progress. It will also be found useful for those who wish to learn the guitar.

In one weekend participants will be surprised at how much they have covered and they will be shown how they can continue on their own.

General Musicianship & Simple Composition

This course is designed for those who want to know and be able to teach the rudiments of music. It is also for those who wish to learn how to compose and how to teach simple composition.

The theory of music is illustrated by means of patterns and colours. Thus concepts can be taught to a greater depth because of the clarity of the explanation.

Composition is again taught in such a way as to make it immediately comprehensible to all; even to those who have never attempted to compose.

This way of teaching is ideal in the classroom as all pupils are able to produce something meaningful and pleasing. The students are taught to write away from an instrument, using conventional harmony.

Aural awareness is an integral part of the system.

Again this is made possible by means of using colour.

Teaching the Recorder in the Classroom

This course covers the material found in the Colour Piping and Wizard's Way Recorder Books.

Designed especially for those wishing to teach the recorder, but there are also many ideas for those who already teach the recorder.

You will be delighted at the rate of progress.

Piano Course

This course contains many exciting innovative ideas and explains to the piano teacher how to approach this method.

This differs from other piano methods as it allows the children to use the whole keyboard immediately.

How all scales are learnt with real understanding by the use of tetrachords. Children are less inhibited by the keyboard and soon are dancing on the keys because the music that is written lies easily under the hands.

Improvisation and transposition are taught from the very beginning and the use of the notation strip and the magic circle make elusive theoretical concepts easy for any child to understand.

Traditional musical notation is adhered to in all respects but the learning process is accelerated by the use of patterns and colours.
